Day one of the Newmarket July Festival was bright and sunny. After watering, the turf was good to firm for Wednesday’s seven races. The following are the UK horse racing results and payouts from Newmarket.
Mr Singh delighted its backers with a 10/11 victory as favourite in the 14:10 Bahrain Trophy. But the bookies soon relaxed a little once Shalaa won as a 14/1 outsider in the 14:40 Arqana July Stakes.
An even longer shot then won when Big Orange claimed the 15:15 at 25/1, which was followed by a 12/1 win for Resonant in the 15:45 Unibet Handicap. Punters were again disappointed when Salvo won at 10/1 in the 16:20 Maiden Fillies Stakes.
Lumiere managed to redress the balance by winning as 6/5 favourite in the 16:55 Maiden Fillies Stakes. Tupi then claimed the 17:30 Sir Henry Cecil Stakes, leaving Jan Van Hoof to win as 9/4 favourite in the 18:00 Handicap.
